Many things happened in those last months and I didn&#8217;t have the time (and will) to update the blog. But lately I felt that I needed to hone my translations skills and here we are: Fischia il Vento (Wind whistles), is a partizan song, one of the most well known.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe lyrics were writted by the medic and partizan Felice Cascione on the music of the famous Russian song &#8220;Katyusha&#8221;.<br \/>\nThe last two lines in every verse is repeated two times.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float: left; width: 45%;\">\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fischia il vento e infuria la bufera<br \/>\nscarpe rotte e pur bisogna andar<br \/>\na conquistare la rossa primavera<br \/>\ndove sorge il sol dell&#8217;avvenir.<\/h5>\n<h5>Ogni contrada \u00e8 patria del ribelle,<br \/>\nogni donna a lui dona un sospir<br \/>\nnella notte lo guidano le stelle<br \/>\nforte il cuor e il braccio nel colpir<\/h5>\n<h5>Se ci coglie la crudele morte<br \/>\ndura vendetta sar\u00e0 del partigian<br \/>\normai sicura \u00e8 la dura sorte<br \/>\ndel fascista vile e traditor<\/h5>\n<h5>Cessa il vento, calma \u00e8 la bufera<br \/>\ntorna a casa il fiero partigian<br \/>\nsventolando la rossa sua bandiera<br \/>\nvittoriosi, al fin liberi siam!<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"float: right; width: 55%;\">\n<h5 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wind whistles and the storm rages<br \/>\nBroken shoes and yet we must head<br \/>\nto conquer the red spring<br \/>\nwhere the Sun of the future rises<\/h5>\n<h5>Every country is homeland to the rebel<br \/>\nEvery woman yearns for him<br \/>\nThe stars guide him at night<br \/>\nStrong his heart and the arm when they strike<\/h5>\n<h5>If the cruel death catches us<br \/>\nThe partizan will have its fierce revenge<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s now certain the grim fate<br \/>\nof the vile and traitorous fascist<\/h5>\n<h5>The wind ceases, the storm calms<br \/>\nthe proud partizan comes back home<br \/>\nwaving his red flag<br \/>\nwe are at last victorious and free!<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<p>A few notes on the translation:<br \/>\n<em>Sole dell&#8217;avvenire<\/em> here translated as &#8220;Sun of the future&#8221; is an old socialist\/communist expression.<br \/>\n<em>Contrada<\/em> has no fixed meaning in Italian. Depending on the county, it may mean &#8220;quarter&#8221;, &#8220;street&#8221;, &#8220;district&#8221;, &#8220;county&#8221;, &#8220;territory&#8221;, &#8220;land&#8221;, &#8220;country&#8221; and so on. Today is mainly used to name the various quarters of the old town of a city. For example, the various <em>contrade <\/em>of Siena who play in the Palio.<\/p>\n<p>Well, I hope to update this blog more often in the future.
